- Father’s Day was first celebrated in Spokane Washington through the efforts of Sondra Smart Dodd whose father single handedly raised six children while farming.
- It was celebrated on June 19, 1910. June was chosen because it was the birth month of William Smart, Sondra’s Father.
- In 1924 Calvin Coolidge was the first president to acknowledge Father’s Day.
- In 1966 Lyndon Johnson made the first presidential proclamation about Father’s Day.
- In 1972 Richard Nixon made it a National Holiday on the 3rd Sunday in June.
